再從最近的兩部與圖書館相關的影片,來看美國的公共圖書館是否可稱為社會基礎建設。一部是紀錄片「<a href="http://www.j-ent.com.tw/movie_exlibristhenewyorkpubliclibrary.htm">悅讀</a>—紐約公共圖書館」;另一部是劇情片(台灣未上映?) “The Public”。在「悅讀」一片中,我們看到<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Public_Library">紐約公共圖書館</a>(<a href="https://www.nypl.org/">NYPL</a>) 與其讀者/當地居民的開放而多元的互動、圖書館決策者對數位包容、文化包容 … 的社會責任感,在美國這樣的民主社會中,圖書館也體現了民主平權的思想、且發揮其社會功能,難怪可稱為社會基礎建設。<br />

“The Public”(TIFF <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJXikN1kOqQ">Trailer</a>) 是討論圖書館員與遊民的影片,在一篇影片<a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3294746/">簡介</a>中提到 "This David versus Goliath story tackles some of our nation's most challenging issues, homelessness and mental illness and sets the drama inside one of the last bastions of democracy-in-action: your public library."(這部片觸及了目前一些最具挑戰性的問題 (遊民及精神病者),本片將場景設置於民主實踐的最後堡壘之一的地方,也就是: 你的公共圖書館)<br />

美國圖書館界或協會等組織不僅在處理遊民問題上,提供館員許多<a href="http://www.ala.org/pla/resources/tools/homelessness">參考資源</a>;在處理藥癮讀者(麻醉類藥物濫用)問題上亦能<a href="https://www.webjunction.org/news/webjunction/opioid-resources-for-libraries.html">公開討論</a>、<a href="http://www.ala.org/news/press-releases/2018/10/public-library-association-partners-oclc-help-public-libraries-partners">圖謀對策</a>。這顯現圖書館與社會大眾的關係是緊緊相扣的。<br />

雖說台灣的社會環境、社會問題,及圖館的性格與美國不同,但圖書館似乎還未成為人們的一個充滿對話/溝通互動的場域,大多是默默順服、寧靜之所;此外,也有人說台灣圖書館員具有公務員的性格、圖書館員需更多自由去發揮知識服務的理想[註] 。<br />

如此比較,台灣圖書館是否能充分發揮其社會功能及價值,足以成為社會基礎建設呢?</div>

不同於一般館藏,名人藏書不僅對讀者或研究者來說別具意義;對編目員而言,可說是在傾聽一段人與書的故事,一旦書有了藏書者的故事,這些藏書就讓人更覺感人及珍惜。</div>

欲體認藏書內涵,首先可先去了解藏書者其人其事(如閱讀其傳記),例如台大圖書館庋藏的<a href="http://speccoll.lib.ntu.edu.tw/node/27">伊能文庫</a>、<a href="http://newsletter.lib.ntu.edu.tw/node/54#館務報導2">楊雲萍文庫</a>、<a href="http://newsletter.lib.ntu.edu.tw/node/159#07">安田文庫</a>及大陸國圖的<a href="https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%A9%86%E9%BA%9F%E5%BE%B7">穆麟德</a>藏書[1]等,都見有背景介紹。對藏書者及其時代了解得愈多就愈能體認其中精神所在。</div>

最近編完<a href="https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%96%B9%E6%9D%B1%E7%BE%8E">方東美</a>先生的西文藏書,期間也陸續閱讀關於方東美的一些資料,對於這位哲學大師的思想,是我無法於短時間內了解的,但在嚴肅莊重的學術領域之外,我讀到了方夫人寫方先生的兩篇很感人的短文:「寫在東美八十冥壽之前夕」及「東美與書」[2],後一篇講到方先生是如何愛書,是「想盡方法,千辛萬苦,節衣縮食」買書 …… (見下圖)

一、 書名頁的裝飾圖案/插畫 (如 圖1、圖2)<br />

最常見的是英國出版商 <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._M._Dent">J. M. Dent </a>出版的叢書 <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everyman%27s_Library">Everyman's Library series</a>,其書名頁常有裝飾圖框(見圖1之右圖)。這應源自歐洲中世紀歌德藝術在書籍上的插畫(註1),但後來書籍普及、大量化之後,似乎少見這種裝飾圖案了(註2)。<br />

若圖上的文字不易辨別、或與封面等處的書名不一致時,那麼編目員多少得花點功夫。<br />

二、出版社圖徽(<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Publisher’s/Printer’s Device</span>) (如 圖3) <br />

<a href="http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/device">Device</a> 暫稱之圖徽。圖徽常出現在書名頁中間位置,或書名頁前一頁、<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colophon_(publishing)">colophon</a>等處。<br />
美國波士頓的出版社 <a href="http://chumleyandpepys.blogspot.tw/2010/08/publishers-devices-houghton-mifflin-and.html">Houghton, Mifflin and company</a> (The Riverside Press, Cambridge)(註3)圖徽(圖3左)上的格言為 <a href="http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tout%20bien%20ou%20rien">Tout Bien ou Rien</a> (意為:everything well (done) or nothing (attempted)) <span style="font-family: "新細明體" , "serif"; font-size: 12.0pt;">。</span><br />
另外如:英國的出版社<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allen_%26_Unwin">George Allen & Unwin</a>的圖徽(圖3中下)、大學出版社(如<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yale_University">耶魯大學</a>),則有類似校徽的圖案(圖3 右) (註5)。 <br />

這類出版社的圖徽顯然與現今常見的logo或商標(主要以辨識為目的)不同,圖徽較具歷史意涵及藝術性,似乎也連帶增加了書籍的審美度,讓書有幾分珍藏品的味道。<br />

當然編目要以書名頁為主要的依據。書名頁上的<b>作者名</b>是很重要的標目/檢索點,但當作者名較特殊時,常不那麼容易馬上能決定如何著錄。如:<br />

These natural associations are more important than the strictness of the data structure or the formalized semantic interpretation of such a data structure. The Semantic Web protocol Resource Description Framework (RDF) comes out of work of the artificial intelligence (AI) community, which has an entirely different approach from that of previous information technology. Although machine intelligence and human intelligence are significantly different, AI attempts to model human thinking rather than the business processes that were the primary motivator for developments in previous information technology design. The study of human cognition has many facets, one of which revolves around our use of common concepts to understand the world. We walk down the street and say “Hey, look at that cat!” If instead we said “Look at that four-legged mammal” we would be considered either strange or facetious. Many conceptual categories are not exclusive.<br />

OF GMD ELEMENTS; CARRIER DESCRIPTION) </span> 中提到:<br />

"RDA vocabularies for Content, Media, and Carrier type were developed jointly with ONIX. The vocabulary terms may be replaced for display in an OPAC by other terms of a local agency’s choosing or by icons. The terms may be used additionally or only for filtering or limiting searches."<br />

也就是說 再OPAC 顯示(畫面)上,MARC 的欄位336, 337, 338 的資料是可以用圖書館自訂的(資料類別)項目(或小圖示)來取代的,畢竟要從使用者易於理解的角度著眼。而336, 337, 338 的資料主要目的應是可供"後台" (檢索結果的分類/FRBR化) 之用吧。<br />

下面的例子中,前兩例(例1, 2)的"XX類型"/稽核項,看起來是否有點怪怪的? 而後兩例(例3, 4)的 "Format" 似較平易近人。<br />

談到 <a href="http://www.loc.gov/bibframe/">Bibframe</a> (BF,Bibliographic Framework) 之前須先提語意網 (Semantic Web)。現今大眾查詢資料的設備(devices)多樣化,因此讓不同系統及其中的資料互通及資料互連,變為極必要。Semantic Web 及 Linked Data (LD,<a href="http://concert.stpi.narl.org.tw/Images/upload/2013/11/HaoRenKe-Report.pdf">鏈結資料</a>) 就是其中產物 (見演講ppt slide 12),在LD 中的一項技術(電腦語法) 為 RDF ,而 BF 只是 RDF 中的一種規範(?) 在此種描述方式(邏輯)下,圖書館界對書目描述(即編目) 的傳統觀念必作一轉變,即我們要去 "解構" (或是所謂 entitification,見 slide 69-72)書目資料,而這又須對 <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Functional_Requirements_for_Bibliographic_Records">FRBR</a> 的 WEBI 及 relationships 有所認識 (參見 slide 26),然後再對應到 BF 的四個上層大類 (<a href="http://www.loc.gov/bibframe/docs/model.html">4 Classes</a> : work, instance, authority, annotation)(參見 slide 56)。<br />

Debra Liuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10649751019795167272noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36335500.post-28762725152810859602014-07-11T11:08:00.001+08:002014-07-12T00:07:12.835+08:00OCLC資料模型與BIBFRAMEOCLC的資料模型(data model)發展比BIBFRAME早一些,它是以Schema.org(訂定的標準) 為參考基礎。而Schema.org是Google、微軟、Yahoo等搜尋引擎大廠所合作的計畫,推動標示語言好讓電腦了解網頁內容。[1] 2013年中OCLC有份工作報告:The Relationship between BIBFRAME and OCLC's Linked-Data Model of Bibliographic Description: A Working Paper (<a href="http://oclc.org/content/dam/research/publications/library/2013/2013-05.pdf">PDF</a>),其中提到OCLC資料模型和BIBFRAME的異同,簡單說,兩者相同處包括:兩者的目的很相近、同樣想展現FRBR觀念模型、許多詞彙(vocabulary)相同或近似;相異處則有:對資源描述的深度(詳細度)及廣度不同(見下圖1)、對資源表述的方式不同(見下圖2) [2] 及詞彙的數量與精細程度不同等。<br />

目前看來,兩者在FRBR Group1 實體 work 及 expression 的處理上都還有困難,仍待解決[3] 。 (我想,如果 work 與 expression 的區分仍是圖書館資源描述的核心問題的話) 相較之下,具象層次的 manifestation 與 item 處理上較無問題。 <br />

在此報告之後,兩者都持續修訂與進展,如:OCLC 在 <a href="http://www.w3.org/community/schemabibex/wiki/Main_Page">Schema Bib Extend Community Group</a>中提出需求草案(如 hasInstance 等屬性條目)、 BIBFRAME設立試作平台等,或許有些問題已獲解決。 <br />
<br />
OCLC與搜尋引擎接軌、視野較廣;而BIBFRAME以圖館館社群的需求做更細緻探究與秉持,兩者可說是互補的關係,但仍有許多細部問題待協商解決。也希望BIBFRAME<a href="http://listserv.loc.gov/listarch/bibframe.html">廣納意見</a>並作更好的修訂。</div>

VGI 是指<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volunteered_geographic_information">Volunteered Geographic Information</a>,有譯作“自願地理資訊”, 是由一般民眾自願性提供空間資訊,以建置開放的地理資訊資料庫[2],這和圖資學資訊組織裡講的社會性詮釋資料 (social metadata)[3]有一些相似處,因此我們或許可參考其他學科如何處理、研究及運用這類資料,及VGI 對其學科的含意及衝擊。<br />

隋殿志教授以前的一份報告中還曾用<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marshall_McLuhan">麥克魯漢</a>的媒體律 (McLuhan’s law of the media)[4]來分析VGI 的影響[5],其中一張投影片如下:<br />

近來電子書(ebook)的爭議與話題燃燒[2],也讓人聯想到電子書和紙本書的環保問題。在 <a href="http://www.triplepundit.com/2011/02/will-ebooks-jeopardize-book-industrys-carbon-reduction-goals/">Will Ebooks Jeopardize the Carbon Reduction Goals of the Book Industry?</a> (電子書是否妨礙了圖書出版業的碳減量目標呢?)一文提到:一本書會產生4.01公斤的二氧化碳(所謂「碳足跡」)[3];電子書閱讀設備(平板電腦) iPad 的碳足跡量高達130公斤…[@-@],看來數位閱讀時代若要環保,不光是圖書館、圖書出版業的意識與努力,且需機器、設備廠商能配合才有效果。<br />

又,就如今日手機幾乎人人有,但仍有人無經濟能力或不願擁有;數位閱讀時代又如何使每人都用電腦或皆有電子閱讀器呢?這有著不可消弭的數位落差問題,看來只要紙本圖書有需求存在,圖書館的紙本館藏仍會繼續存在。<br />

[摘要] 相關新聞報導,在512四川震災中,12歲以下的兒童在乃是心理受創最嚴重的一群,而閱讀兒童文學作品,能使遭逢情緒困擾的兒童忘卻現實之不愉快,進而紓緩其負面情緒,此即為「發展性書目療法」(Developmental Bibliotherapy)之精神。爰此,臺灣大學圖書信息學系與國家圖書館發起「送兒童情緒療愈繪本到四川」之項目活動,結合臺灣圖書信息、心理衛生與心理諮商及兒童文學等各界專家學者組成選書小組,挑選50種具情緒療愈效用之繪本,并出版《兒童情緒療愈繪本解題書目》,作為導讀手冊。希望未來能將所選繪本與該解題書目送至四川等震災地區,使災區兒童透過繪本閱讀達到心理重建之目的。</div>Debra Liuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10649751019795167272noreply@blogger.com0
